Crete Chae Clay mirror, summer studio, home updates concrete art

New armature for wall work ! Yay . I have been experimenting more with lighter weight armatures and investigating hanging methods for wall work . I am seeing more and more calls for work in public exhibitions that are looking for either shallow relief wall work or suspended works. It has fueled a desire to find working solutions for the crete chae to be used in new formats . In truth this is somewhat how crete chae clay was brought to life n the beginning. I wanted to make larger outdoor works and my kiln wasn't able to produce the larger sculptures needs.

Investigate, research , lots of trial and error and that is how new work , new growth brought crete chae to life. In upgrading the master bath this summer I decided to use spray foam on a large mirror . Sprayed directly onto the glass , then carved and covered in crete chae clay and finished with the same colorants and sealants as the large outdoor works. The main shower is still a work in progress, but a concrete coating and the start to a large sculptural dragonfly that I will incorporate some glass into is in the works .

As you can see it is still a work in progress , the countertops are still being worked on in preparation for a final epoxy coating and then the glass, tile and dragonfly in the shower will be next.

Summer started in full scorch and burn mode this year on many levels .Expensive, painful and transformative- phoenix rising energy has been demanded with no other choice but to meet the days as they come. I feel oddly calm and upturned at the same time and the best thing for feeling out of sorts is studio .

As it has proven once again it is the only thing that can be truly relied on because it is literally who I am at the core.

Over the last six months nearly every aspect of this little life was thrown into transformation. Life continues and perhaps my vision has been cleared as I have cleared out the house, the studio and my surroundings. Removing negative people , places and things ,opening space for a peaceful life.

Doors close and doors open:

I am happy to be prepping Nouveau to go to Georgia for an exhibition and planning to spend some time by the water.

Moving forward is the only option, being cognizant of what is good in the present and looking to a new future isn't optional it is the persistent will to continue breathing. creating, teaching and growing . I hope you all have time to enjoy the present moments of summer and find your studios to be of solace .
